More about Wassily Lounge Chair - Spinney beck Leather & Red Frame

The iconic Wassily Chair is crafted with leather or canvas straps stretched over a tubular steel frame, inspired by the curves of a bicycle. Designed in 1925, it was the first of its kind and remains a celebrated symbol of modernist design.

That same year, Marcel Breuer, then an apprentice at the Bauhaus, reimagined the traditional club chair by reducing it to its most essential lines, revolutionizing furniture design forever.

His inspiration to work with tubular steel came from learning how it was “bent like macaroni” for bicycle frames. “I was deeply fascinated by the transparency of the form,” Breuer remarked, recognizing the potential of this lightweight, strong, and flexible material to bring his vision to life.

An early prototype captured the interest of his colleague Wassily Kandinsky, for whom the chair was later named.
